i5-2500k getting nowhere fast

Thread Starter
I just set up my new system running a i5-2500k on a MSI P67A-C45 Mobo. It doesn't seem to matter what changes I make, my pc continues to boot and run at the stock 3.3GHz. I did notice that under the CPU specifications tab in the OC menu, it said the Ratio Status was locked. Would this have anything to do with it? Any other ideas or suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Update the BIOS. Look up to see if there's any specific overclocking guides to your board.

I've had tons of issues with two different boards now for two different 2600k chips. I'm not glad to see that you're having a problem, but I am glad to see that there's more people talking about something else other than "how do I get to 5GHz now!!!", when people like me can't get over 4GHz lol.

I figured it out. Though the updated bios helped smooth out the bios interface and provide more accurate core temps, it was reading the manual that did the trick. For those that may have had a similar issue w/ this board, the Overspeed Protection in the CPU Features menu must be disabled in order to overclock the CPU.

I was fooling around with the auto tuning feature of one of the Asus utlilities, the TurboV and I got 4.5ghz easy. I would have to increase voltage and get a new cooler to go higher, but I am happy with 4.5ghz.
