Converting from H70 to Archon

Thread Starter
Hello Guys,

I can't seems to solve the noise issue from H70... I have 2 Gentle typhoon AP-15 and a shroud for the push side and it is still too noisy for my ears.

I am thinking of converting to Archon.

I am using HAF-X and i7-920 with high profile ram~(Do I have to remove the 200mm fan?)

Care to comment on the noise and cooling?

Just replaced my H70 with the Thermalright Silver Arrow about 2 days ago and i love it! Dropped overall temps at least another 10 degrees and silent, maybe just got a bad H70 (overrated)?

I thought the H70 fans were too loud also at max 2000 rpm , I would run them at 1100 rpm and that was just fine.

You could try keeping what ever fans you have under 1500 rpm and see if that is quiet enough for you.

*Most fan specs are bull**** and are much louder than they claim, especially with varying case designs, obstructions, etc.

For my H50 I went with Scythe Kazemaru 2's. 140mm fans that fit 120mm mounts. Had to cut off part of the outer edge to fit it under the tubes, but they work quite well, are quite cheap, and are pretty quiet for their airflow.

id go witht he silver arrow or d14. i think they will perform better allowing you to use quieter fans. that and the fans that come with the d14 are silent.

you will also see substantial temp drops as the h50/70 series is extremely overrated.

I swear the H70 was just slightly better than my stock 1090T cooler that it came with.

It took about 2 seconds on the first boot for me to realize that I really had something with the Silver Arrow.

Simply cannot stress how well it out performs the H70 and for about $50 less!!! I used the stock fans that came with both the H70 and SA for my comparison.

The Archon is relatively new with little data. However the few reviews show it to match the Silver Arrow in performance.

The nicest thing about the Archon is that it does not cover any memory slots. It comes with one Ty-140 fan with option to run two. It is very tall at 170mm...so check your clearance.

The Archon comes with the Ty-140 fan. They move lots of air and so quiet.
You can read hundreds on comments on how quiet the Noctua Nh-d14 is here on OCN.
The Silver Arrrow has two TY-140 and is noticably quieter than the D14 so the Archon should be quieter than both since it runs one TY-140.

Lasty, don't know you rig specs, but I successfully cooled a OC i7, 4ghz with a Silver Arrow with zero fans! Completely passive, all heatsink, and obviously zero noise.

Who says that the silver arrow or D14 are better than the Archon? If I had a case that supported the Archon I would buy it in a heartbeat.

IMO the H50/70 is the most massively overrated computer product I have ever encountered lol.

Neither the D14 nor the SA's fans are silent to the human ear at full rpms. Also the Archon with a single fan is quieter than the Arrow with two fans.

Some reviews even show it edging out the Arrow with a push/pull setup

Even if you don't have tall RAM heatsinks (which IMO are completely useless aside from looks), it is nice that the Archon doesn't cover the memory slots. That is just one less thing you have to do if you have to swap out your RAM.
