Yes it's just my guess. ATI tends to make a big bump in performance once in a while. HD 6000 series were just a efficient refresh.

I would assume that they would use GDDR-5

850 core? break the 1Ghz wall already, my 5850s are passed 1Ghz
post #6 of 10
They most likely will use 1700Mhz GDDR5 6800 effective as its already taped out by hynix.
This thread is all speculation though...

I'd be damned if it was the same as a 6970, but with much less tdp
post #8 of 10
hes right the 6970 is only like a slight bit better than the 5870 maybe 10% thats it. We should hope to see a 25-35% perf. increase with the next gen series

That is b/c they are both 45nm cards. They just went to VLIW-4 and made the die a little bigger.

Anyway the HD7*** cards will NOT be VLIW-4, not the high end ones. That has already been confirmed.

Also don't forget that 32nm was canceled so this will be a big jump, 45nm to 28nm. We'll probably be seeing 50% performance gains. Its to be huge.

Subbed.

EDIT:
Nevermind, this was a thread necro from January. Closing this thread as it holds no merit, there's no proof, and its just a random guess.
