Phenom x2 555be questions.

Thread Starter
Hey there, looking into getting a 555be, but have some questions .

I have an asrock motherobard that can unlock extra cores, the only option i see in bios is 'unlock cpu core', if i enable that will that be done straight away or is there anything else to it?

2. Whats the chances of it unlocking?

3. If i cant unlock it, would i be able to return the processor to the place i bought it or cant you take them back?

Thanks geez

Your motherboard supports up to 95w cpu's. A X2 555 is 80w so that would work but no room to overclock. A unlocked X2 555 to quad will pull 125w so it's a no go unfortuntely.

Just remember, even with a new motherboard there will be no guarentee that you can unlock the extra cores. Some are just faulty and will never work. If you want a quad buy a quad

Yea if ur sure u want a quad go buy one...i was lucky to get a magic chip that unlocks and can get to 4.2ghz or 4.5ghz with 2 cores active...again its all about knowing what you want, i can say that the chip even with 2 cores overclocked to 4ghz is enough to play any game comfortable...in benchmarking its not a slouch either...unlocked to quad core and at 4.2ghz it scores a 7.5 on the windows 7 performance index

the n68 gets some ok feedback on unlocking the extra cores in general. the 555be in stock form will run most apps - games i take it, really easily. go for the 555be, try the unlock and oc, see how it goes before buying a new mobo. if the best you get is a 555be in stock form on your n68 it will not be all tears

Just set it in the bios and give it a shot. What's the worst that can happen?
