Need choosing need choosing graphics cards.

Hi All,

I'm thinking about updating my graphics card. Right now I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series. The memory size is 512 mb and the memory type is GDDR5. My motherboard can run two cards simultaneously I would like to run two cards. Any suggestions to go with will be greatly appreciated. I'm a gamer as well as amateur photographer.

Thanks,

amd and nvidia are releasing next week the 6950 1gb and the gtx 560. both of those cards should come in at around $270-$290. both can run sli or xfire. those sets would be your best bet honestly unless you plan to go to multi monitors/2560x1440/1600 resolution

also the release of those two cards may push the prices on the 460/470 and 6850/6870 down as well if you wish to go with two of those cards. it's worth waiting 2 or 3 days and then seeing what suits your current/future needs.

Depending on the budget, 6850 may be the staring point. Here is the link shown some numbers on latest GPUs. Not sure which 4xxx you have, let's say 4850, which is few % behind 5750. That 750tx can pull 60a/720w on 12v so it should be fine for CF rig by assuming you go for ATI

Are you on a budget?

What resolution is your monitor at?

Do you really want 2 cards, or a single card solution? You can always add a 2nd card later.

Any preference with ATI or Nvidia?

Budget requirments and use would be of some help in this endevor

Possibly even your case, if it is small it may not house some of today's monsters

If you insist on running two GPU's, the logical thing to do is get a very cheap used 4870 for like $75-$100 to crossfire with the 4870 you already have.

If budget is not a concern then get the GTX 580 or two reference 6950's (to unlock).

Hi All,

My cases is a full tower and should handle most graphic cards. My budget is around $600. Another question has arose is it better for me to buy two graphics cards and run them in dual-mode or just buy one very expensive graphics card.

One expensive card, then add another if/when you can afford it. Although occasionally two weaker cards will perform better than the single card for the same money.
