New 2600k hitting 66c in BIOS? - Page 2

Just to give you a benchmark of where to start, I am using a Hyper 212 and using silicone instead of that crappy paste. I have always used silicone on my chips and never had an issue. My idle temps are in the high 20's (close to the temp in my room) and get into the high 60's @ 4.5ghz while under full load with Prime95. The hyper is decent but not much better than the stock cooler, so yours should only be slightly warmer. Hope this helps!

this solved my problem of over using paste, because the pictures really help.

That's way too much thermal paste my friend. Use a rice grain sized drop.

I would also try to make sure that you have all the pushpins pushed all the way in.

What the hell is wrong with people saying put a pea size. Do you know how much that is?

USE A BB size.

I was going to give it one more shot tonight but I think I should just wait for another heatsink. I was thinking of getting Corsair's H70 but I'm sure anything would have better mounting than this Intel one.

Very useful link, thanks! That makes more sense to give it a light tint before dropping a small bead or line down the center.

It's even harder for people like myself who never eat their greens....the last time I ate peas I was like 4 and they looked a lot bigger to me back then lol

Thanks to all for tips on how much paste to use, I also thought I was using more than I needed to but my only explanation for my high temps was that I didn't have enough to cover what needs to be covered. I'll get a new heatsink and another bottle of AC5 then see where I'm at.

Just sucks I can't even at least test out this GTX 580 I got installed in the thing.....it's way too big to fit in my current PC!
