790i hardlocks

Thread Starter
i had been runing sli for sometime and got my oc up to 4.25 and decided to back it off a little bit just for good measure. i just recently got another 460 for a total of three. its now a dedicated phsyx card.

since then i ahve been have hardlocks at random times. what can i do to regain stabliity?

North bridge voltage may need to be bumped. IIRC the NB controls the PCI-E lanes and with the extra card it may need some more voltage

what if i am at fsb volt is 1.35 already is 1.40 safe?

my idle vcore in windows cpuz is 1.406 but 100% load at 1.313

First try to run only the new card in your rig (take the old one out) to see if maybe your card is unstable (faulty)..

FSB volts got nothing to do with your BSODs..

If your new card is OK then:

1. Try bump NB volts just by 0.02V to see if it helps..

2. Also try to bump Vcore by 0.01V to see if maybe your bord's circutry is giving your CPU less voltage becouse your 2nd graphic card is pulling juice from the PCIE slot..

If that doesn't help then:

1. reinstall graphic drivers completely

2. in Safe mode use Driver sweeper to clean them completely..

3. Reboot and install drivers again..

Also if that doesn't help install the latest 790i chipset drivers..

If that doesn't help then reinstall Windows completely..

CHEERS..

as long as your NB is in the "green" you're perfectly fine. feel free to bump it up a bit, but know that the 780i/790i Northbridges run very hot. If you have three 460s then the last one isn't going to be using as much wattage as the other two since it's just running physics...

make sure you're two main cards are in the first and last slot, and the physics is in the middle...

also, make sure your PCIe setting in [clocks] is set to 100 and not something higher...
