What waterblock to get for a 6950

Gonna be getting a pair of 6950's that i will flash to 6970 and i want to get a pair of waterblocks to go with but i cant seem to find any reviews out there on what waterblock is the best to get. Also right now im just running a cpu loop (hardware in sig below) and i remember you have to be careful so you dont mix different metals with the different waterblocks right? so i need one that will go nicely with my current cpu block

I've had great success (borat!) with EK blocks. They perform very well, and the full cover gpu blocks are less expensive than most other companies. Koolance also makes some good gpu blocks, as does danger den and aquacomputer.

Would this block be fine

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12...l=g30c309s1373

I swear i remember reading something about not mixing different metals in a loop??

also the backplate

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12...e_-_Black.html

Asthetics only? I might do it because you will actually see the backplate more then the front of the card lol.

And ive read some issues with people not getting compression fittings to clear the PCB, should i be ok with compression fittings or do i need something extra? and is there a special connector i can get to interconnect the two cards or just a couple compression fittings and a very short piece of tubing?

from anandtech "AMD is utilizing the same cooler/PCB/layout for both the 6970 and 6950," I think the only difference is the power connectors

should be fine, i was more concerned with it being a different metal than my cpu block which i thought was a no no.

that and the fittings issue

Yes, the EK 6970 block will work fine on a 6950 reference card.

The only metal you need to be concerned with is Aluminum. As long as you don't have it in your loop, you're totally fine mixing the other metals (brass, copper, nickel, etc).

EK makes some nice SLI/Crossfire water cooling bridges. Koolance and Danger Den also have some connector kits. Aside from that, you can use two stubby barbs with a piece of tubing to connect them.

good info, thanks. Have you heard any issues about not being able to fit compression fittings there because of them not clearing the PCB? I plan on running compression fittings throughout and would like to avoid using barbs

EK have learned from their mistakes since they made the first version of the EK Supreme HF CPU block. You should have no issues running compression fittings on EK GPU waterblocks.

i was reading issues with people's compression fittings not clearing the PCB on the GPU, and this was with cards as recent as the GTX580

If you are worried about the fittings and the GPU get some 45 degree angled fittings as well, they make the loop look really awesome and would ensure you don't have any problems with the fitting clearing the PCB.
