Ok so I need to make some movies for a university class and I need to record audio separate from the video camera. The camera is a Vixia HF M30 as well as a Canon t1i.

What I was thinking was buying one of these and connecting a mic to it which can be easily hidden in the scene. What I need advice on is what would be a good quality mic, and how effective would that recorder be. I just randomly choose that one, from the settings it says it has a Microphone Jack: 3.5 mm, impedance 2k ohms (mono). So I would need a decent mic that would connect to that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

EDIT: So what I need here is a good 3.5mm mic that has good directional sound recording, because people would likely be relatively far away (a couple meters maybe).
