I'm seriously wondering if this guys is trolling or not
But anyways, rock 4x Opterons on the motherboard the others linked, with like 48gb ram (max 256gb is so lol...) with 3x firepro cards in crossfire for optimal video rendering performance...this computer will cost like 10k $... lol
oh, and don't forget the 4x revo drives in raid0 + 10x storage HDDs in raid1 with a super raid card

But AMD's probably got the better deal. IE

Can that go into a 4-CPU array? 48 Cores....

Do the software he posted even support that many threads? It'll be hell of a build if they do.

I wonder if that board can fit four NH-D14's...

4 AMD Opteron 6174 = $5,196 + All that ram + Workstation Video Cards + The Mobo = Above $10,000 Easy. If your that rich then this is NP.
I need the many cores so we can render locally instead of sending our projects to a farm - it can get really expensive fast.
The CPU is really the bottleneck when rendering so the more power the better!

What's your experience with the CPU's how much can they be overclocked and still be stable?
As you can see in the benchmark chart I posted in the initial post. The 48Core setup is only 33% faster than the 2CPU/6 Core Xeon setup so I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it.
I come here with a serious question, and I hope I can get some serious replies.

If we stop talking about the hardware cost, and start talking performance it would be great

Right, but since this is server hardware the Watt usage isn't that extreme. And it's not necessarily going to run 24/7, we do care about our planet

You really want the best, that's going to take four octa core Intel Xeon 1567 processors.
