6 ssd raid - Page 2

Since you don't have a budget, just get one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227523

Spend a grand or so on a RAID 6 file server with a few 3TB disks if you want a decent backup/redundancy scheme.

I want optimal performance, so I don't think I can offload any files to a media drive.
So would this be overkill :-p

Raid controller with 4 internal sas ports, 2 gb cache:

battery backup module for the above:

2TB drives x 16 (4 striped Arrays of 4 Disks in RAID 5, i.e. RAID 50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136456

Total storage = ~24TB
Total price = 4K

You'd need a hell of a case and a power supply though. You should get very fast read/write times times with this setup but you'll never match the latency of SSDs though so I'd still use SSDs for a boot/program drive.

If your budget is truly unlimited, that card can support something like 128 devices. So you could swap out the regular hd's for your 128* 240 gig ssds.
Total Storage = 23TB
Total Price = 90K just for the drives

Of course this card wouldn't be able to handle the bandwidth so realistically you'd need some crazy setup to handle it properly at which point your cpu/pci express interface will be the bottleneck.

Many have failed long before that too, and I'm not confident with DR outfits' ability to pull the data off of them, either.
