I would get a stock 6850. It's right under your price point. They have huge OC overhead since you plan on overclocking. I would get the Sapphire, since it comes with Trixx and 5 free game promotions per year. It will be overkill, but it will be fun to play around with.

6850 -> best bang for buck card out right now (according to W1zzard at TPU), OC's like a beast too. Mine will do 1025 core without artifacting or crashing.
6870 -> poor OC headroom (both 6850 and 6870 end up around same frequency).
5850 -> older and less efficient, but about the same speed as 6850 if you can get a good deal.
5870 -> more expensive, might as well get the 6950 and call it a day.
5700 series -> still awesome bang for the buck, but you insist on spending more.

I could see the GTX 470 going for $200 with special deals after the 560 is released.

i suggest getting a this Asus 6870

has 3 Aluminam heat pipes that come in direct contact with the GPU also comes with Heatsinks on the memory as well. overall a lovely card (mine comes tomorrow) now on the OC'ing i ran my old 6870 (HIS) at 1000/1250 (stock volts) 24/7 on furmark and it was at 89 degrees so i sent it back im more then confident that the Asus Direct CU will cool much better.

However a 6850 is a AWESOME card, if i didnt have the $ to spend my new years upgrade like i did, i would of went 6850, that gigabyte version with dual fans or the direct CU would be AWESOME! u just choose, but I highly recommend the 6870
