OS install from flash drive

Thread Starter
I am wanting to install a server OS on a computer from my flash drive. I have not done this before but i was wanting to verify that i do not have to unpack the program. Can i just install the OS onto the flash drive and indicate in the BIOS to run USB as default. Any other tips would be great.

What type is it? You can use some special software to "BURN" the iso to the Thumb drive.
EDIT:
For Linux http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/
&
For Windows 7(should work with other versions)

Not sure what os it is but i use the one microsoft puts out. Just make a iso and launch the app and plug in the usb drive and it does the rest for you.

Info for the windows server how to do it:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...8WS.10%29.aspx

and one more:

These should get you going.

is the file already in an ISO? If not you can extract the File with this program:
http://www.magiciso.com/tutorials/mi...c-overview.htm
1.Install
2.StartUP
3.Go to the little taskmanager thing where the time is and right click on Magic Disc
4.Click "MAKE CD/DVD IMAGE"
5.Select where the DVD or CD is and choose "OutPut" format as ISO
6.Choose where you want the ISO to go
7.And make sure you check "MAKE CD IMAGE"
8. Click Ok and let it do its job
Then use Windows DVD USB tool to burn it to a USB thumbdrive.
