Greetings earthlings.

UPDATED SEE PAGE 6, POST 53!

I hope to get some advice, opinions and alternatives for my gaming rig on the budget (~$500). Not looking for the top of the line but plan to keep it and be able upgrade it in the future (desired features: overclocking and cross fire). Favorite games Starcraft II, Half-Life, Crysis, Day of Defeat, Civ, ...

The easy part:
CPU
AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2GHz

RAM
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 !!! 8-8-8-21 !!!

Power Supply
Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W

Hard Drive
SAMSUNG F3 HD502HJ SATA 500GB 7200 RPM

This is where the trouble starts eek.gif

Motherboard choices
1. ASRock EXTREME3 870
2. Asus M4A79XTD-EVO
3. Asus M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3

Video card choices:
1. ASUS GeForce GTX 460 768MB (Fermi) ENGTX460 DirectCU TOP/2DI
2. EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE 1GB (Fermi) 01G-P3-1366-TR
3. SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 100315L Video Card with Eyefinity

Case choices:
1. Rosewell CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid
2. XION XON-CBX01-RD CyborGX
3. RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB
4. Antec Three Hundred Illusion ATX
5. NZXT Tempes Evo TEVO-001BK

Not sure if links to all components would help. If so let me know I can add it. Fee free to make sugestions about CPU and Power Supply as well.

Looking forward to the advice and discussion......

The ASRock 870 e3 is the budgeteers dream board pretty much. Out of the cards, I'd personally grab the 6850, the SE's aren't much of a hit around here due to the lesser amount of Stream Processors. You could also get that same ram in 1600 form for like a $5 bill more(just to help with your oc if anything at all). As far as the case, I refuse to add anything, too personal for me =) Overall, some very good picks!

*edit* Forgot to mention Mushkin just got some decent budget 1600 silverlines up on the egg for 45 bucks.

My budget is only about 500. But if I were building 700-800 it would be Sandu Bridge i5-2000K CPU --- have you seen the reviews? The best money can buy right now!

Thanks though.

Give the M4A88 a miss for crossfire - you really need two 16 lane slots for that or
performance may drop loads. the 555BE OC's well - mine hits 4 core 4 ghz (stable) but i tend to run at 3.5 ghz as the fan is quieter. Even at 3.2 dual core the 555BE runs anything on max cod, fc2, re5, fallout, stalker(the best game ever - even if the graphics are dodgy) you can run half life on max settings on a Pentium 4 LOL. The graphics card is what gives you the gaming ooomph and any of those will be fine. The Antec is a cool case for the money.
