How to connect Mugen2 push-pull fan on mobo

I have received my Sandy Bridge Hardware today and noticed on my ASRock Extreme 4 mobo there is only one 4pins CPU-fan connector, second CPU-fan connector is 3 pin. So I could like I found here in the Overclock.net search, go for this:

But according to a review below in this Conrad site this seems not to work [it is in Dutch BTW]. So what could be a better solution now, put the second fan to the 4pin case fan connector or in the 3 pin CPU connector?

The 3 pin connector fits in the 4 pin slot.

The 4 pin will also fit in a 3 pin slot.

The only difference is you lose PWM support

You can get a 4-pin Y-cable. This fan is available in Europe. It comes with a 4-pin Y-cable. Unlike some 4-pin Y-cables it has the rpm wire from one fan only. With this OKGear Y-cable I must cut one of the rpm reporting wire so my mb does not get confused.

@stuffstuff, the fans are in pull-push to my Mugen2 revB, so I want them to react the same, all the time.
@Ehume, the second fan is the same as the stock Mugen2 revB fan and I want to keep this.
I think your explanation is plausible, because the signal could be disturbed connecting the fans by parallel wiring, like if the signal is pulsing from both fans to mobo causing double readings or in Ampere as you see in: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_...allel_circuits
To not cut the wrong wire; I should cut away the wire that support the PWM signal or the tacho wire!!

Just get a hefty fan controller and control them using one knob.

I guess there has to be some compromise here

Just plug both fans into either 3 or 4-pin plugs on the board. You will lose PWM to one of the fans but if you will have them running at full speed all the time then that doesn't matter.

Or hook them both up to 3-pin to molex adapters like this:

I prefer to go for PWM system and this must be possible; how the hell are the coolers that already have two fans installed, like Corsair A70/Spire Thermax EclipseII/ NoctuaNH-D14 connected to the mobo, I guess with only one connector!!!

And you can purchase PWN fan controllers.

Wires for fans:

*Black = ground
*Color1 (usually red) = variable Voltage
*Color2 (often yellow) = rpm reporter: signals from fan to mb
*Color3 (sometimes blue) = PWM controller: signals from mb to fan

3-wire cables stop at the rpm reporter wire. When fans are controlled by PWM, the Voltage liine is a steady 12 Volts.

Some Y-cables omit the rpm reporter on one branch.

The Noctua NH-D14 comes with a Y-cable. One branch has 3 wires (gnd, Voltage and rpm reporter) and the other has two (gnd, Voltage). Thus as you guessed, a single plug goes into the mb. But Noctua assumes Voltage control, and Gigabyte is the only mb maker I know that still allows voltage control.

If you want to control two fans with PWM, you can use a 4-pin Y-cable. From the wire order - black-color1-color2-color3 - you can figure out which wire to cut (color2). Or you might find a 4-wire Y-cable that omits the rpm reporter on one branch.

Or you can get an Akasa PWM Splitter. This gets its power from Molex, gets its PWM control from the MB and reports rpm from only one fan. It has connections for three fans, so you could use the third connection for a PWM case fan.

Thanks Ehume, this is a decent answer, I will solder ground/12Volt & PWM to the first fan and isolate the RPM controlled wire from one fan, so only one RPM signal is entering the mobo.
