Do I need a Matrox TripleHead2Go??

Wasn't to sure to post this so if it's in the wrong place sorry...

Anyway on with the questions!! I've recently finished my build after a year's hiatus (pics comings soon!). I've got 3 monitors (BenQ G2222HDL 21.5") and 2 4890's in Crossfire. Now because they're in crossfire I can only run 2 monitors at a time obviously which kind of defeats the point of having 3 monitors... So I just wanted some advice... Please don't tell me to upgrade to the 5K series for eyefinity as I just finished this build and haven't even broken it in yet! I've researched around and a few places have suggested that I try and get hold of a TripleHead2Go... I liked the idea of this as I'd be able to game on 3 screens but it would be expensive... Others have suggested I disable crossfire and just use SoftTH. What would you guys suggest?? Would running 3 monitors through one display be a problem? I mean would my frame rate be lower than if I split up the cards and used SoftTH? I mean wouldn't keeping the cards in crossfire mean a higher frame rate?

Thanks guys!

If I'm correct, the triplehead2go doesn't support resolutions higher than 1280x1024. I'm not sure, but I think that's the case.

Well, TH2G essentially makes the three monitors look like one display, so your crossfire setup should still share the load and, of course, produce the higher framerate.

I forsee you getting completely boned with compatibility issues if you try to use the SofTH option. Since it's free, you're welcome to try and see if it will work (here's a link I found to a newer W7 compatible version).

TH2G is like $300, however. I know you said you don't want this solution, but I strongly urge you to try selling your 4890's on the marketplace and invest in a 5 or 6 series card and make use of Eyefinity.

Oh. I didn't know that there were newer revisions of the TH2G.

My bad.

That. A TH2G is expensive. You would be better off selling the 4890's and buying a 6000 series card.

Well a few guys were selling there TripleHeads on here for $150 so I PM'd them asking if they'd be willing to ship outside the UK... Thanks for the Card upgrade suggestion. I just dunno the 4890's are black editions so they're already stocked at 1GHz... I just thought selling them for like a 1/3 of what I paid for them just so I could get cards like 5770 which wouldn't perform anywhere near the same would be a massive mistake... And would selling 2 4890s just to get one card really be a good idea??

Is upgrading really a good idea?? I really don't want to... I mean how much could I get for my 4890s they're in perfect condition. Is there a single card option that'd perform just as well as my 4890's that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg?? Does eyefinity have a better compatibility rate? I'm just so unsure! I'm really reluctant to sell these 4890's though as I went through so much to get them and I haven't even used them yet

Don't make hasty decisions.

I WOULD sell the 4890's BUT I would make sure that I am ABLE to sell them. Only selling 1 of them would suck the most.

Go for a minimum of a 5870 or a 6870 or a 5850. Below that, eyefinity isn't worth it. The performance would just suck with a 5770 for example.

Hmmm that's true... Never thought of it that way... But would the 5870/50 or 6870 really perform as well as my 1ghz 4890's...? I mean it's gonna be a pain getting rid of these 4890s let alone getting a decent price... Maybe the Matrox would be the best idea. Especially If I could pick it up for around $150

Might as well check out how softTH handles it.. all it costs you is time.

5770's perform very, very close to a 4890, and overclock equally as amazingly. You don't necessarily need a 6xxx card, I think a single 5870 would be quite close to 2x 4890's, when you figure in that crossfire doesn't scale near 100% for each added card. Plus, 5870's can be found used pretty readily, the price premium would certainly be less than the $150 it costs for a TH2G unit. With AA and such, you may be very close to the 1 gb ceiling for your 4890's anyways.

My 2 cents
