Typically when you are building your rig people recommend to get one more powerful GPU instead of starting in Xfire. It gives you a place to upgrade later on.

I'd get a 955 BE instead.
Same OC potential and unlocked multi but you save ~$15.
I'd also go with 1x 6950 instead of 2x 6850's.
1) There's not much of an upgrade path with 2x 6850's.
2) You can unlock to a 6970
3) Spend less and gauge performance first. If it's not enough, get another 6950/6970.

For $1700, you should be able to do a lot better.

I agree with this. I recently put my rig together with a 1090t and a 6970. 2 1 TB cav blacks and a 60 gb vertex 2 on a crosshair IV formula for about that price.

Edit: Using corsair dominators 7/8/7/20 1600 mhz

I see a lot of wrong in the memory decision. Seriously, this is a top end build; not the kind of build where you should throw generic stuff or worse-than-generic stuff (do I see a 1.65V voltage requirement for those generic settings there!?). You have a choice. Go with something better, at least a 1600 CL9 kit; most 1600 CL9 kits (at least 2x2GB ones) will reach the same or lower price as the equivalent generic 1333 CL9 kit. The other reason I don't recommend 1333 CL9 is because it can hold back what would've been a perfectly good overclock...

I think if you went with a single card you could do a smaller wattage powersupply... 1000 seems a little overkill... Id say a 6950 with a 750W will do just fine
