Q. Does Razer BlackWidow have anti-ghosting capability? How about N-key rollover?
A. Yes, the Razer BlackWidow does have anti-ghosting capabilities. The Razer BlackWidow is a USB only keyboard that features a gaming optimized key matrix that allows the recognition of up to six simultaneous key presses. N-key rollover (NKRO) is only possible with a direct connection to a native PS/2 port on the computer which also has other limitations that USB overcomes. The Razer BlackWidow’s gaming optimized key matrix serves a similar purpose while using the more modern and readily available USB port.

Definitive answer:

The BlackWidow is cheap because iOne can manufacture things much cheaper than Diatec and other major mechanical keyboard OEMs. The keyboard itself is more cheaply made (though still well above average for a keyboard), and is made in larger quantities than Das or Filco keyboards. This means lower costs ($50 costs, instead of $80) so they can sell it for $80 instead of $120.

It doesn't have to do with NKRO at all. XArmor (subsidiary/partner/something with iOne as well) is releasing a competitor to the BlackWidow in February that will have NKRO and sell for about the same price. NKRO costs about $0.80 in diodes, $1.50 in extra manufacturing costs (dual-layer PCB and more soldering), and requires simpler controller logic. So NKRO doesn't warrant more than a $5 increase in price, except that demand lets companies get away with charging $10 or more for the feature.

First of all when you are normally typing, that is to say when you are typing an essay, report, book, paragraph or email, YOU TYPE ONE LETTER AT A TIME, NO MATTER HOW FAST YOU TYPE. This is how typing letters work, you press one letter at a time. If I am wrong please tell me how you press more than one button at a time when you are typing a word, other then using shift to capitalize letters.

Gaming is the only time where you would have to type more then one key at once. On the side of the keyboard where the WSAD keys are you can press 6 keys at once on the top two rows (that is to say the row with the W key, and the row with the ASD keys). On the row with the ZXC keys, you can only press 2 keys at once. The arrow keys also only have 2kro.

Remember: 6 keys per row, and only on the top two rows where the W and the ASD keys are located, this is because that is where the "matrix" is located.

This is to say that the Black Widow functions properly in games and the problems are not big enough that any user cannot deal with by changing the way you play.

The Ultimate is a complete waste of money the average user upgrading from a G15 type keyboard will most likely not notice anything. Personally what drove me to get the black widow (normal) was the fact that it was about 9$ off due to being open box. (otherwise I would have probably went with a Das)

Too answer the OP's question: Yes it is a cheaper keyboard, the Ultimate is a huge rip off (only useful if you are 16 and think back-lighting is cool), but if you can get the normal version on sale it is a decent first mechanical for anyone currently using a cheap dome top POS.

You will see a huge difference in quality buying a DAS over the BW, and personally for games I like blue's better.

The WASD cluster is optimized so you won't probably encounter that problem there. But you will if you like to use the arrow cluster or another one. Or if you just type really fast.

Some games are played with both hands on the keyboard.

i have the keyboard right in front of me... its 6 keys anything over six and nothing at all comes up.

Some combinations of THREE keys won't work (according to Manyak's review, z+x+c doesn't work) which means it's 2 key rollover. Period. That's the definition. Even if there are some combinations of more keys that work.

6keys of what? WASD and p/m or a shift/ctrl/alt modifer then yea that is the "optimized gaming matrix" + 2 key roll-over.

I use WASD + arrow keys to fly choppers in BC2, trying to use my BlackWidow for that is a nightmare which is why I gave it to my parents after I was done messing with it and stuck with my 6Gv2 and G80-3494 (of course I also vastly prefer the linear switches but still, even if the BW had cherry blacks or even reds it's 2KRO wouldn't have been acceptable).

My cheap Chinese mechanical would do fine for that, even though it's 2kro. I can actually hit WASD and any 2 arrows at the same time and have them all register, but left/up/right or left/up/down fail on their own... frown.gif It really just depends on how the matrix is set up.

It's cheap because unlike other manufactures of mechanical keyboards, Razer has a large audience of customers that will buy it, and they are a large, recognized brand in the PC gaming industry.
