Small mATX cases? Is this my best choice?

I'm going to be putting together my first SFF build... I'm really close to pulling the trigger now, but I still have a few reservations about the case. I plan to pick up the Silverstone SG01S-W Evolution. I really like the shoebox style and I want something as small as possible. I'd really prefer to make this mITX instead, but I need to be able to use a soundcard in addition to a dual slot video card, so I guess that won't work.

Still, I want the case to be as small as possible. Are there any others that compare to the SG01 in that regard? I started out really liking some of the Lian Li mATX cases, until I realized just how big they actually were.

The FT03 is pretty rad... I love the design and the small footprint, but it's tall! I really like the look of the upcoming TJ08-E, too. Part of me feels like the SG01 is "out of date" and I'd be better off buying a newer design chassis -- but in either instance I'd be back to a tower when the whole point was to make something portable.

So, I don't know.. I'm being indecisive, the TJ08E and FT03 seem like nicer more refined cases, but they seem to be getting away from the whole SFF idea. I've found a few other relatively small mATX cases, but they just seem cheap or low quality, while I want a showpiece. =)

Just throwing this out there before I "settle" on the SG01S-W.

You might want to take a look at the Thermaltake Armor A30. Also the Langear DaBox, although from my experience the finish is not exactly up to par if you want a "showpiece." Dabox is the only case to go if you want a full tower heatsink though. Also I'm not sure if you've taken a look at the QMicra, although it's as big or maybe bigger than the Lian Li V35X series.

I just picked up this case on a whim, solid little bugger. I'm pretty sure it's going to be my go to case for making budget ish sff mATX rigs from now on. I'm really digging it.

The egg pictures as usual don't do the hardware any justice, in person it looks much better. Its so small/laid out well, I might get one for myself =)

If you want a super small mATX build, have you checked out the LAN GEAR Da Box?

Yeah, I've looked at it. It's still bigger than the SG01 is, and no real external bays vs. two of them on the SG01. =/ I wasn't a huge fan of how it looks, though you can't say it doesn't live up to its namesake.

Honestly, I'm pretty torn with this build. I'm ready to order parts as soon as I can make a decision, but I don't know if that's going to happen. I feel like I need something between mITX and mATX. I want something small, but with only one expansion slot I won't be able to get the functionality I need. Most mATX cases are big enough that it almost seems pointless not to go to full ATX, besides the fact that there are only two mATX P67 boards and I don't like either of them.

It's too bad! I've never had the money sitting around for a computer and had the types of components I want not exist. An odd predicament, lol.

Heck yeah, I totally understand. I was in the same predicament. I need something portable, which is why I wanted something small... but ITX wasn't gonna cut it for me. I went with mATX, the lan gear obviously, with a bag to carry.

If you have a computer store nearby, why not go check out cases and compare sizes so you can see in person? That helped me decide on mATX.
