New setup, better rad, worse temps?

Thread Starter
Hey folks of OCN

I decided to take watercooling to the next level since I enjoyed my CPU watercooled
After some asking around and opening threads I decided to order some new stuff:

EK6870 waterblock
1/2 hose and barbs
MCR 320 rad

Now the thing is, that I got about 47 degrees load with a magicool slim 240 rad, and with my new setup I get 58 degrees.....
It's a much larger/better radiator, and it idles at the temp that it normally would've been on @ full load
GPU temps aren't that good either, 53 degrees when playing crysis on full detail, 43 degrees idle.
Ambient is about 20 degrees.

I actually removed my 3,2 ghz overclock back to the stock 2,4ghz since even the hoses feel warm.

How come that my tempratures are way higher with a better rad than the temps I got with a crappy rad

What fans are you using? Is the pump running? You definitely have a major problem with your setup. If you forgot to rinse the radiator before installing you could have gunk in your waterblock, restricting flow.

I am using cooler master R4's (they do push a LOT of air, so imo they're not that bad for a rad)

the pump is running well, at about speed 3 (d5 pump)
I shook the rad like a madman with distilled water in it about 2 times, and flushed it 2 times....., rinse? how exactly does that work ?

air in the lines/radiator. Shake the radiator with the water in the loop. More than likely you will have alot of air bubbles come out through your reservoir. (might want to uncap the res to let the air escape/add more water)

It could also be that the radiator is not properly bled.

Also, try using pump settings 5. It may be that you are having problems with laminar flow.

Nothing, not even a tiny little bubble came from shaking my case and tilting it.
And as far as I can see there still is some air in the lines, but those are all tiny little bubbles

Err, as a matter of fact i'd love to do that.

But when installing it I ruined whatever was left of the inlet 1/4 thread of my reservoir.
so now the inlet hose of my reservoir is directly below the pump inlet hose, which makes it pull air at stance 4+

How is the air temperature going into the rad? Is it fresh cold ambient air, or are you recirculating some.

Using some cheap aquarium temperature probes is a good way to check, compare the air in all along the rad vs. ambient.

I've seen a ton of installs on the backs of cases where the PSU or GPU is blowing hot air into the rad....very bad..

Cold fresh ambient air entering the rad is critical.

Well, it is on the back of the case using the air the pc spits out (the air that went past the hdd's, mobo heatsinks, and ram)

And err, seems like it was nowhere near done bleeding at all.
Was playing with the pump speeds and turning it on and off, and now the GPU hits 31 idle and the CPU 26 idle

Since the flow in the reservoir does not work properly now the pump just sucks in the air that should escape normally.

i'll try to bleed some more and see what temps I can get
