Fan Controller Question

Thread Starter
I just installed my Lamptron fc5 fan controller with 4 Gentle Typhoons in a push/pull configuration. I'm using a 3-pin splitter so that I can run the 2 push fans off 1 knob and the 2 pull fans off another knob.

My question is regarding the readings on the fan controller. Is it normal for the voltage and rpm to fluctuate? For example the voltage on knob 1 goes from ~9.6-10.2v without touching it and the rpms range from ~1230-1440rpm.

Installation was pretty straight forward so I can't imagine messing anything up but I just thought it was strange the readings of both knobs fluctuates.

I have read reviews and this seems to be a common problem with those controllers. They say it has something to do with PWM, but I think it's just a design flaw. If you can't stand it, I would return it, but otherwise it's no big deal.

Remove the splitter(s) and run a single fan on each channel, see if the display still fluctuates.

I disconnected 1 of the fans on knob 1 that was using the y-splitter. After doing this the rpm's stayed constant on that channel, no fluctuation.

My question now is this:

If I'm using a y-splitter with 3-pin fans (2 fans per channel). Should I cut one of the yellow rpm fan wires on each channel so that only 1 fan per channel is giving rpm readouts?

yes

I got a splitter too, and my RPM's fluctuate a bit, but not that much. the splitter came with a yellow wire to only one of the connections

ok so you only need 1 rpm wire per fan controller, even if lets say you have 16 fans?

After I removed the 1 fan from the splitter it only fluctuated from like 1720-1740 rpms.

When pairing fans to a single channel, only run one rpm wire (usually yellow) to the fan controller.
