Suggest Android phone $150-$250

I'm in the market for a new phone. I'll be using it outside the states with a different SIM so no contract phones or CDMA phones; only unlockable GSM phones.

Things it must have :

Capacitive screen
WiFi
Standalone GPS
Should be able to play Angry Birds

I may buy a used phone as well, if its in good condition..

HTC Evo 4G would be a good choice, don't know if it can play Angry birds though.

That suits almost none of his needs. No ability to use it outside of the US (not really) and not in his price range.

OP, the Droid 1 goes for about that price, and the motorola milestone is almost the same phone, but with GSM, and harder to hack (though I hear it just got a froyo port). You might look into that. Can't think of anything else that's all that powerful in that price range off the top of my head.

OP, if you don't mind doing a little hacking and flashing, go for an HTC HD2.

Runs WM6.5 from the factory, but Android has been ported to it, and recently it was able to run Android directly from the phone's internal memory (NAND).

It runs Gingerbread 2.3 great and is also capable to run Windows Phone 7, Ubuntu, and soon Meego (in dev.)

You can find them for pretty cheap on craigslist, since most of them are people who hate WinMo and are uneducated about flashing Android.

Don't pay extra for an HD2 that already has Android; it's rather simple to do it yourself. Just visit xda-developers.com

tl;dr Get an HD2, install Android, rock a 4.3" 1Ghz powerhouse LIKE A BOSS.

Can I get a milestone for upto 250 usd?
The galaxy 5($180) just plays Angry Birds, but I don't want that phone for other reasons.

I've never really bought anything off craigslist before, I'll look into it. Is it safe?
So this will be a used HD2 right?

Personally, I'd think you'd be hard-pressed to see any unlocked phone at that budget. You may look into used ones off Craigslist or some second-hand store, but be mindful of the condition of the devices.

A Blackberry should serve you well given your circumstances, but then again it isn't really an alternative to the Android experience. If you're shopping for a higher-tier smartphone, the search will be harder. HTC Wildfire, Hero or Desire might be good, but I'm unsure about their price used.

Xperia X8 for $260 on ebay, new and without contract.
I don't understand what you're trying to get at here..

Looking around on craigslist, I came across these few listings :

I stand corrected, then. Usually high-end new and unlocked Android smartphones start at $500 but yeah the mid-end ones are loads cheaper. Nice finds on Craigslist too. What phone are you considering?
