Sigh, I still can't pick

Hey all,

Well, i've decided on either a GTX570 or a 6970. Both are in the £300 range. Both are epic.

GTX570 Pro's
  • Physx
  • 3d Surround
  • Great Overclocker
  • Folding Capabilities
  • Better AA performance

GTX570 Cons
  • Heat
  • Power consuption
  • Nview requires two cards

ATI 6970 Pro's
  • Running Temps
  • Power consuption
  • Eyefinity on a single card
  • Good AA
  • Better Tesselation than the 5k series

ATI 6970 Cons
  • No Physx without Nvidia card
  • Tesselation isn't as good as nvidia
  • Performance is lower in some games

Someone help, i'm getting this at the end of the month.

which card are u talking about? 470 or 570? Because 570 neither has heat nor power issues

The 570 pulls more than the 6970 and produces more heat. Pulls about 30w - 50w more than the ATI.

Saying it's a no brainer isn't really helpful, They are both great cards. why is it a no brainer then? Kind of a fanboi comment really....

You listed multi display solutions there.

If you have any desire to get 3x displays, AMD wins.

Why? Well. Multi displays are a pain when maximizing a window maximizes it to ALL 3 SCREENS. The only way to disable this with nVidia is to disable surround. This requires you to configure surround all over again when you want to enable it again.

AMD cards have profiles. You can have an eyefinity profile and an extended profile. Switching between these is easy. Takes a few seconds by CCC. AFAIK you can also bind them to hotkeys. Only takes a couple of seconds to switch.

If you ain't planning on a 3x monitor setup, I'd suggest the 570.

triple screen setup is something I would consider, but the other problem with running triple screen and multi gpu's is when you tab out of a game you loose xfire.

But yeah, that's a nice bit of input, thanks

That issue is nothing compared to the problem that I stated. Although you might be a very enthusiastic alt tabber, in which case the balance tips.

It may sound like nothing now, but when you run 3 monitors, it becomes very annoying. You'd rather use the monitors as separate monitors in windows usage.

ultimately, yes I do think I would like the idea of triple monitors, that being said though I might only decide to use a triple monitor setup on a few games. So i'll refrain from alt-tabbing
