Rampage 3 Extreme - Ram and 980x oc.

Hi,

I'm new to overclocking.

Just a question about Rampage 3 Extreme with Corsair CMX12GX3M3A2000C9.

On auto the Ram is detected as 1066mhz. In bios "Extreme Tweaking" Tab there is no choice for 2000 Mhz. Only 1600, 18.. and then 2133.

Which way I should set it up to get its 2000mhz from it.

I also planing to overclock i7 980x on this board, but for now I have only stock cooler, which actually keeps processor on 45-55 degrees with fan quite mode and 100% load for hours.

This system is usually loaded on it max with fume simulations, video and 3d rendering, so I still wan't to keep it stable.

Can you please suggest which is best way to overclock: first - ram, and then processor (if the stock cooler allows it).

And if it ok to do it with ROG connection?

Thanks

Using RoG is fine.

What you need to do is start reading about OCing the CPU, about uncore, and ram.

Memory:
Basicaly, Memory works in multipliers of the BLK.
X8 is the basic, goes up by 2s.
Meaning if the basic BLK is 133, you will get 133X8=1064, 133X10=1333 and so on.
In order to get memory to 2000, you need a BLK which can support it combining a multiplier.

OCing the CPU needs some patiance and some work.

Basically, what you should do is this:
Set volts:
cpu volt = 1.35v
QPI/Dram volt = 1.33v
Dram volt = 1.66v
LLC to 100%.
Everything else on auto.

CPU @ memory:
Set CPU multi to x 20
Set BLK to 200
Set Uncore to 3000
Set QPI to the lowest before slow mode (7200 if I'm not mistaken)

Disable some stuff like speed step, C1E, spread spectrums.

Try these, run linx or prime95 blend test for an hour, see if its stable and max temps you get.
If its 70c, I don't recommend going any higher.
If its stable, start lowering the cpu volt one notch, and retest until you get it stable at the lowest volt you can.

This is of course just a basic.
No idea you knowledge at OCing.

Thanks Defoler,

Here's my RC Tweak Default settings (Volts and Frequencies)

As it shown there, for BCLK I can choose frequency. And it looks like to get 1066 it uses multiplier 8.01503759.
So is it right that I need to set frequency 249.530957 to get my 2000mhz out of it?

Also I know that in bios the voltage is set to auto, by increasing frequency should I do the voltage as well?

This all relates to CPU OC?

I also will start to read info about it, to get it all right before I go for CPU OC.
