HELP! Super high temps - Page 2

Different thermal grease isn't going to make a huge difference (a few C), if you are running hot then you have a problem. Things to check are:

1. Is the cooler seated properly - take it off and make sure that the TIM (Thermal Interface Material or paste) is well spread out

2. Did you apply the TIM properly - if there wasn't a thin coat of paste evenly covering the CPU then you put on too little, or didn't spread it around properly

3. Are the fans running properly - sounds silly but it happens, make sure if you have two fans that they are both moving air in the same direction

4. What program are you using to read the temperatures - CoreTemp is a good one, some programs give false results

Edit:

Warweo - I notice you are in Rugby. I'm sorry about that... I'm sitting looking out the window at the cement works at the moment.

I take it your heat-sink has a fan? Can you increase the speed?

Anyway, back onto topic. Try installing speedfan, I use it and I find it really useful for adjusting my fans.

We all overlook things at times. I have forgotten to plug my pump back into the PSU after leak testing on a separate transformer on a few occasions. doh.gif Glad things are sorted for you.

Yes, that is why I am emigrating to Canada next month. A little extreme maybe, but after 2 years here moving 4500 miles away might not be far enough.

Ha! Yes, quite... It's not to bad for me though, I'm in the sub urbs so it's a bit nicer out here. As for your move to Canada, I've always loved that country, the stunning countryside, the big cars (at least when your used to a peugeot 206) and pancakes for breakfast. Maybe I'm stereotyping, but I have nothing else to go by. The closest link I have is a French car...

I fixed the CPU fan and it's running a bit cooler now. Idle temps are in the high 20's but gaming temps still get up to the high 60's.
