Video Card Selection Help

Thread Starter
Hello every one I just RMA'd my HIS 6870 for a Asus DC 6870, but... I have been reading a lot of reviews that the 6850 is a much better buy. I am getting only a single PCIe slot Motherboard and I just want ONLY one card solutions.

Basically what I am trying to ask is will the 6850 reach 1000 Core, like my old 6870? what are the over clocks looking on it? Reason why I am thinking about the 6850 is because the money I save I can get a hyper212+ and have a overclocked CPU, and a overclocked 6850,

if I go 6870 then i will continue to stay stock clock as i do not want to OC heavily without a good CPU HSF,

what do u guys suggest? and yes i know my monitor is small but I want the biggest and strongest card within a reasonable amount for my set up.

Any tips would be lovely!

The 6950 will only be an upgrade from the 6870 if you flash the 6950 with a 6970 BIOS. Otherwise, the 6870 outperforms a 6950.

My mistake, it was me that read the first post wrong. If you're getting a 6870 back from RMA, stick with that over a 6850.

yea, i just didnt feel that the HIS 6870 was worth it tbh.. the customer support? whats that -_- lol

so i got free RMA shipping and a complete refund

I just feel that with a 6850 i can then buy a after market CPU HSF and really have a balanced system, since the 6870 is now the star of my system, but with a stock CPU... i think i can do a bit bttr... idk.. ima wait none the less ur replys have been greatly appreciated

Well, since you're using a 19" monitor and the resolution isn't that big, a 6850 fill be perfectly fine for you. Rather than getting a 6850, though, go for a 6950. They run quieter and cooler which could potentially lead to a higher overclock - as I said before you can also flash them to a 6970.

the 6950 is way to high up for my budget, i also need to add a HSF for my CPU, that budget will be up to high, If i go 6850 i save around $60 or so and then i can buy a CPU HSF so i can make my system a bit more balanced, and I can OC both the GPU and CPU...

Im sorry im being really hard with u, ur trying to help and i appreciate ur help

Just stick with the 6870, and save some money down the road for a better heatsink.

Stick with the 6870.

Keep the 6870, save yourself shipping fees, and get an aftermarket cooler for future overclocking.
