Watercooling doesn't leak right?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just wanted to take a second to say hello.

I've been building PCs for about 10 years, work as a software developer. For some reason lately i've been really motivated and have been getting many shipments.

I just upgraded everything, and have this i7 950 pushing 4.1ghz on air, but temps are way beyond where I'd like. I can't get to 4.2 stable and it goes up to 92... So I've decided I need to get rid of this zalman air POS and take the jump to water. I feel like I _should be able to get to 4.4-4.6 without too much trouble. When I first heard about putting water next to circuits, I thought it was absolute lunacy. But it looks like everyone does it and nothing bad happens, so what the hell.

I've been obsessing on what I can fit in this case for a week now. I just drilled some rivets out, and i'm at the point where i'm going to need some advice and have some questions, so I figured its time to start posting.

I'll probably pic up a camera soon and share some pics/vids. Specs are in sig

A WC loop shouldn't leak, no. But why are you going to 4.4 Ghz? If you're going to be using this computer 24/7, you don't want to shorten the CPU's life.

As long as you take your time with it and don't rush, you wont have any leakage problems.

You can get faulty/cracked blocks which can leak, obviously there is always that element, but generally it doesn't happen. Even if it does, damage is normally minimal, if any.

Just take your time when you assemble it, and it'll be fine.

this. sound advice. take it slow. watch as many videos on youtube as you can. research research research. make sure you rinse your radiator with near boiling distilled water a few times to get out all the leftover flux.

run a good leak test. disconnect all power from all devices. set up your loop with nothing but the motherboard/cpu and the psu(psu out of the case). no hdd's no video, nothing. run the pump for atleast an hour to make sure there is no leaks.

Definitely, the leak test is the vital part. Get that right, and the construction spot on, and you will have zero trouble. Take it slow, and do it right.

For the novice, compression fittings or barbs with these clips:

Not pretty, but done up tight, they're the best hose clips you can get.

Hello my friend and welcome to ocn.You don't have to worry about leaks as they are very very rare.Just be careful and do your leak testing and you won't have an issue.

You might consider a corsair h50 or 70 for your first time as they cool very well and will probably suit your needs with minimal fuss.

By the way, you can easily get 4.2-4.4ghz if you use a noctua NH-D14 with some good fans
