New Amplifier, help needed

Thread Starter
I recently aquired a QSC ISA 280 for the glorious price of---- Free. I was told that it didnt work, so I am attempting to fix it. I havnt owned any high end audio equipment before, so all these new connections I dont know, and need your help.

Below is a picture of the back. What connections do I need for inputs/outputs?

Thanks in advance!

"Direct low impedance" outputs are your speaker outputs. You use the two outputs in the middle if you want to bridge the amp and run a single channel off of it. The circles with 3 pins are XLR inputs. Unless you are connecting pro audio gear, or a super high end audio source unit you need some of these to convert to an RCA plug. Do you know what is wrong with the amp? Will it power on?

The guy I got it from simply said it wouldn't work. It will power on. I just opened it up and there looks to be no blown capacitors, and the fuses look ok. I wonder if he had some settings on it wrong...

Check out the manual. It is possible that some settings were wrong. That amp has a lot of protection circuits on the output side, so I would check the input side of the amp for anything broken first.

I didnt get a manual for it, but I did notice that some settings were different than what were shown on the back (the blue box has different switches)

I have a friend coming over in a bit that has some of the audio equipment to test it.

own alot of P.A Amps and a common problem is the outputs beeing blown out, the part that amplifies the incoming signal to your speakers, normally it sits on a huge heatsink.
in dutch its called a "eindtrap" sorry dont know the english word.

If one of dem are broken then dont worry fixing it, it will be expensive !

they get blown out sometimes by alot of dust in the amp or working on extensive long periods of clipping. some cheap amps die allready after a few clippings

QSC isnt the best in P.A audio but it isnt the worst either, average it is
Nice find for free

I opened it up and there is barely any dust at all. It looks as if it has hardly been used...
