good point, and thinking about future proofing too, if you sold it and got an SLI GTX 260, then your effectively taking a future step backwards.

i was thinking the same thing, but if i was you, id game on a decent resolution, maybe a 1080 24" or something like that... i find bezels such a pisstake.

I use a 4850 and a 8500GT for my two 1080p monitors + 1080p TV, it works great.

TV and main monitor on the 4850 for gaming, 1080p movies on the tv. Second monitor on the 8500gt because all I put on it is web browsers and light apps.

Your 480 and the 290 would defiantly work, you could even run 4 screens. Any video card would work as an adapter in fact. If your just using 4 screens for workspace then you really don't need that much graphics power, just make sure your main gaming monitor is connected to your 480 obviously.

Also last time I checked you can only use two monitors in SLI, the second 480 would not be able to out video. I could be wrong though, thats how it worked for Xfire when I had it set up.

If your talking about Nvidia 3d vision triple monitor setup though it would be a whole different thing entirely of which I am not entirely sure how to set up.

xfire =/= SLI

they arent the same thing. they run very differently to each other, principle is the same, but they scale differently, and you can run surround on 4 screens on SLI on nVidia control panel

Nope, not any more. The only way to drive 3 monitors and game on all of them is to use an SLI setup (atleast with an NVIDIA card). Otherwise as suggested above use a cheaper card to drive the third monitor.
