Amazon Kindle

Thread Starter
My mom is possibly thinking about getting an e-reader, and i was doing some research online when i came across this blog.

http://www.irosf.com/q/zine/article/10619

Some people just shouldn't be allowed to post on the internet.

So anyway i was just wondering what good e-readers are out. Also, i was even thinking about a tablet pc. I know the HP one is coming out in Feb. but are there any other ones out there right now that are great?

And before you ask, NO IPADS!

Thanks

My sister's 3g kindle is pretty awesome. Battery lasts for a month straight, and it can do simple web browsing. You can look up stuff while traveling, even google maps works. It's just black and white.

I have a new generation Kindle (WiFi version). Screen is very easy to read, built in web browser is not the best. Amazon have some great prices on ebooks now, and you can e-mail documents to it for free collection via Wi-Fi (it works by you defining an @kindle.com email address). If you want the documents converting to PDF then the Amazon servers do that to (you put PDF in the subject line). I have a plug-in in my chrome browser that sends pages to my Kindle too which is great for guitar tab. If I don't have my Kindle then I can pick up where I left off on my android app.

If she wants to checkout ebooks from her library, then I would go with the nook. While you can read epub books on a kindle, you have to jump through hoops to convert them. something the non-tech-savvy might not have the desire/patience to.

Got my mom the Wi-fi only kindle for Christmas. She loves it. Its a really nice device. If I read I would definitely own one. Its not really good for anything other than books though, as mentioned the browser is pretty lame.

I got my wife a Kindle for Christmas and she absolutely loves it. She chose it over the Nook because she liked the form factor better after playing with both of them at Best Buy.

The Nook's lending feature leaves a lot to be desired (only lasts 14 days and you have to go back to the library to renew) but it's a clever idea.
