Yea fan controllers could care less what the RPM sensor is, some advanced one's might try to report the RPM like what you have, but voltage is the only thing that will affect speed.

if we are ordering these fans through that website (I really don't know if we are our not) Then I would bet that they do not have the RPM sensing equipment built in. (not that it matters at all to me)

If we go by this: http://www.nidec.com/servo_part_numbers1.htm#

and hover over the "z" we see that the "P" in "AP" of all the standard model typhoons over here means that there is a tachometer installed. while further down the list we see that the "Z" in "AZ" of this particular model actually means that there is no monitoring option at all.

If thats true, it just means that the PCB has the spot on it, just there is nothing attached to it on the other side.

I think it would be best to wait until there is information about whether the Barebones set has the tach sensor, because if there is, I don't see the problem with having one bulk order of Barebones with connectors, etc included and just have OCN members do the rest of the work. There are probably a stack of people who'd do the work for a small fee.

It's already been mentioned, but it would probably cost less compared to the Complete order.

I don't get something.

It was said that the fans will be 12$, 13$ with added shipment cost, and now its 16$?
Whats up?

Is this because of the amount, or it got increased to make people prefer to go bareones instead?

If you are going to split the purchase, will it go back to 13$ including shipment or its going to stay 16$?

I'd like to see some 99% solid pricing info on all the options that doesn't keep changing. I'm ok with most of what's going on as for <$10 it's still a good deal, but the more questions people have that don't get answered, the more this is going to fall apart. What's the exact or "as close as possible" prices quoted from the rep on what barebones is/cost, tach included is/cost, etc. I'm almost thinking that we should order a bunch of PWM fans and they might only be a short wait by the time anything else gets ordered. Keep it up though, I'm pulling this all gets sorted out.

What happened was the distributer failed to mention the import and freight fees associated with getting the complete fans which was estimated at about 4000$. In order accommodate that the price it needs to be added to the fans, so being as we are at about 1400 fans 4000$ divided amongst all the fans adds about 3$ to the price making them 16$

As of now 100$ the bare bones fans are 8$ a piece plus whatever shipping fees involved would be, the complete fans is a little difficult, the only way to get 100% pricing is to stop taking quantity adjustments and follow through with the order.

So many people keep adding to the list its makes it almost impossible to get the true price.

As of now though the complete fans are 100% 13$ but the final freighting fees and such will have to be divided amongst the order making them actually more then the quoted 13$

Its hit or miss, most of the time its more cost effective to just manufacture one item one way rather then several. In this is the case here then they would manufacture one motor that has the sensor and just say it doesn't have it because there no lead soldered to the board. But yet again as we can see with pwm, they do manufacture separate motors so there a good chance the spot is there but no sensor. The only way to be sure is to try it and see if it works.
