ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB 3 aka "Rat Pack"

Parts:
Motherboard - ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB 3
Case – Antec LanBoy (aluminum)
Power – Corsair CMPSU-650TX
CPU – AMD 955 (C3)
Memory – G.Skill Ripjaws F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM
Cooler – Corsair A-70
Video – XFX HD-685X-ZNBC
Hard drives – 2 @ WD5002AALX [Raid 0]
DVD RW – Plextor PX- 708A + 716A
Card reader – Koutech IO-PCM621
Fans - 2 @ Gelid FN-PX12-15 120 mm 1500rpm
OS – Windows 7 64 bit

Pic's
002 - A 9 year old Antic Land Boy (aluminum) does any one remember it?
008 - ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB 3 motherboard installed
023 – CPU and 2@2 GB. memory installed
030 – 2 @ 500 GB hard drives SATA 3 6 Gb/ sec. to be set up Raid 0
037 – 2 hard drives, 2 DVD-RW and a card reader with data cables

I had an aluminum Antic LanBoy (9 year old) but it is so small I may not get all the parts in the case ? (hence the name of my build - "Rat Pack") After looking at the new ASUS motherboards this one was ordered as a mid price motherboard with all the necessary eye candy. I like G. Skill memory and these were on the list. I had a 955 AMD cpu so its a go. I wanted SATA 3 hard drives and WD had some 500 GBs at a low price. I also had 2 Plextor DVD-RW's and they will fit in the case.

Oh boy, this looks like it'll be scary good
But do note that the Corsair A70 only mounts blowing upwards on AM3... AKA into your power supply

I have a Corsair A70 available to use in this build, I think it will fit and yes it will blow into the power supply. It might get a little hot we will have wait and see? I picked a Corsair power supply because it has a good warranty

More Pic's for the Rat Pack

039 – Will all the parts and cables fit?
040 – Flat data cable the DVD-RW were just laying a round so I used them
053 – Corsair A-70 air cooler Oh may it fit; Oh please please
056 - The cooler will blow air from bottom to top or top to bottom which way is best ?
058 – The cooler has 4 - 8mm feet to stand on?

I had the 955, DVD-RW's, case, Fans, and cooler to start the build and some cables

I hear a lot of talk about cable Management but do not fear so far I have managed to get them all in the case. I may have to order a round IDE cable but the flat are so abundant. Now thats a big cooler i think the cooler will fit but the fans will have to go on the outside of the case. Right. I like coolers that are easy to mount on the motherboard. Yes it has 4 feet to walk on and I hope it does not get lost like the people on TV.

I got the cooler installed.

066 – The cooler fit, praise bee, it fit
067 – Its all in the clearance with this memory it would be possible to use all 4 slots
076 - 6850 why ? why not ? because it is short !
080 – The video card fits too but how about all them power cables ?
082 – The only place left for air to flow ?

When I get the video card and the power supply in the CPU cooler will be nice and cozy but all the air will be traped ? At least the cooler gives room for the memory. We picked the 6850 because of the size the other 6000's would not fit but the 6850 has room for the power connector. Some one said that there is still room for another video card at the bottom of the case ? But the power supply is only 650 watts. How is it that THEY want change things in the middle ?

Don't forget to remove the protective film before you install the video card like I did it will be a lot easier if you remove it before you install it in the case.

Build looks good. I love that case, so simple and clean.

Might I suggest this kit : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233060
It will allow you to orient the cooler from front to back so that the fans blow onto the exhaust fan.
It's so little!

Thanks for the info. on the cooler bracket I think its a good idea. By the time I get all parts and cables in there will not be any room for the air to flow? I have been working on the power supply and it getting crowded.

Thanks. The case came from my 1st. build 9 years ago It had an Intel 3200 Northwood in it. I like the case but it does not have many places for cables management and it is a small case but I think I can get it all put together OK.

The next step will have to be to change its name from "Rat Pack" to "Rats Nests"
At this point should I put the power supply in first or should I put the power cables in first ?
Well I gess I will put the power supply in first that way I will not have to hold the power supply with one hand and string the cable with the other.

090 – Maybe some air will flow down here ? --- Another video card have you completely lost your ???
099 - If I put the power supply in there were will all the cables go?
101 – The power supply is in but I thing I will have to change its name to "Rats Nests" ?
102 – WOW were did all the cables go ? (not one was cut)

Not one of the power cables was cut off can you believe it ?

Some one keeps telling me that there is room at the bottom for another 6850 video card ?
