Have you ever tried to run a dedicated physX card on that board. (GTD USB3/Pro)
I could not get it to work. As you know with that board the primary PCIE slot is at the bottom of the board. When I plug a nVidia card in slot 2 when the primary clot has my 5870 in it the nVidia card is not recognized by the MB. It has power, fan is spinning but bios doesn't see it.
With 2 nVidia card in either PCIE this problem does not occur.

Very Nice Build i had a very similar build with the 850w version of that power supply, same gpu and same Mobo. It is insane trying to hide all those cable most of mine went into my empty cd drive slots. Money well spent.

Here's my build They are shockingly Similar

I'm curious as well, I have the M4A89TD PRO/USB3 and I'm rocking on a XFX Double-D HD 6950 with the Phenom II X4 690T BE. I have been thinking about a future upgrade, just not with the current FX chips. I'll wait till I see the results here and with the next set of bulldozers. I just don't want to buy another MOBO and OS anytime soon.

With 2 nVidia card in either PCIE this problem does not occur.

Nvidia has dropped dedicated PhysX functionality when your primary GPU is not an Nvidia board. This is done through the Nvidia board drivers and the PhysX drivers.

Check these site links for info on getting around this:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/nvidia-physx-hack-amd-radeon,2764.html

http://www.ngohq.com/graphic-cards/17706-hybrid-physx-mod-v1-03-v1-05ff.html

Make sure to read the first link from start to end. It explains a lot, and I wouldn't use any card less than what they recommended as PhysX performance actually decreases. Tom's Hardware recommends nothing less than a GTS 250 1GB 256-bit ddr3 (128 cuda cores) with the 5870 to get the PhysX performance of a GTX 480 (480 cuda cores) by itself. I hope you have a 1000 watt psu! You have to remember that both the 5870 and 250 have huge power draws and are not working in SLI or CrossFire so tend to draw full power.
They also state that you don't get any real added value without a GTX 260 (192 cuda cores) or better.
I prefer the GTX 460 1GB 192-bit GDDR5. It's a much faster board with 336 cuda cores, and it draws significantly less power so it runs fine off my Corsair TX-850 with my HD 6950. It's now available for around $140 new, but there are rebates available on various sites that drop that by about $30 making it roughly equal in price to a new GTS 250.

The second link is the site for the driver fix mentioned in the first link. No updates since Oct. 2011. Sadness.
Remember that you have to use the Nvidia and PhysX driver versions supported by the fix and not the latest driver versions.
