The Legendary G80 strikes again!

well, Last night I was having a great time live streaming & benching my E8500 & 8800GTX SLI setup in 3D mark 01 & 03. Was a pretty productive night, and achieved my goal of getting 100,000 points in 3D mark 01. for the first about 2 hours I was fighting my chip to run the benchmarks at 5.7Ghz, 600x9.5, but it was not happening at all. I finally gave up & dialed in at 5.63Ghz or 593x9.5.

Enough talk, time for results!

that one was my first real result after about 3 hours of benching & testing

I actually ran every test but nature at 702/1944/1107, but nature would always artifact & crash at those clocks, so I dialed it back to what you see in the screen for it.

this one was pretty easy, left it at the same clocks I had from after my 01 run & got that score. At the same GPU clocks & CPU at 4.75 on air I got 50k, so CPU speed doesn't exactly scale too well on this bench, but still a nice increase anyhow!

Finally, I ran some pi at the end for fun & actually beat my old score at lower clocks!

thanks for looking & hope to get these cards in 05, 06 & vantage when my 950 arrives!

Well done man! Looks like an awesome session.

Lol about you trying 5.7GHz for a few hours. You seem to be pretty stubborn during your benching!

heh, well I always want the best results....it probably needed more NB voltage....although 1.6v was already a lot

could get to 610FSB validated at 1.45v NB, but too boot at 600 i need 1.58v...used 1.6v for 593 stable. really need to freeze this chip again with water on the 8800 and my new ways to get more FSB...

hopefully I will be benching this chip again with the GTX & maybe an 8800GT for the boints thing!

make sure your NB is cold! I would run around 1.62-1.64v NB for +600mhz FSB. Keep in mind though, that the overall latency for your RAM/NB will determine your required NBv..and also will ultimately limit your FSB.

ie-

maxmem latency measured at ~48-49ns with 1.63v and I could run 625mhz fsb for 3D benching.

maxmem latency measured at ~46-47ns, required 1.65v and could only run to 591mhz fsb for 3D benching.

^^^^^^^^^^this all had nothing to do with RAM stability [as they could run much faster] it was all NB latency/voltage/temp

*hope that helps you out some.

~1.63-1.65v on a P45? 0.o

Guess they're not all DFI's...

yeah.. for 3D benching on my MIIF, with latency around 48ns I had to run 1.62 for 618mhz FSB which is where i made a lot of my final runs with that board.

1.56v was only good for about 52ns latency..had to crank it down pretty hard beyond that.

huh ok I will try maxxmem next time...and I need to make a NB pot sometime for this board

how would one change NB latency? just loosen cas timing? what else can be done?

and also, got some scaling with the CPU and got 5932mhz valid....had to bump VTT to 1.64 and was still only using 1.62ish on the NB...

is 600FSB about the max i will get with the NB on air?

thanks again man, you always have helpful tips!

RAM latency is still controlled by the NB.. so the measurements you are seeing from Maxmem, are related to both memory and NB latency.

ie- compare the two setups below:

560FSB, PL9 560mhz RAM @ 5-4-4-10-18 with clock twister set to stronger = ~52ns

600FSB, PL9 600mhz RAM @ 5-5-5-15-22 with clock twister set to strong = ~52ns

..the difference in latency being reported is more related to the 'clock twister' settings and the timings relaxing for RAM and NB. If you were able to keep the same timings and twister setting..you'd be running low-mid 40ns' at 600mhz 5-4-4-10..and while your RAM may very well be capable of running such speeds/timings.. the NB is most certainly not][without cold and voltage].

static tRead
tRRd
tRfc

^^^These are the timings I will loosen to ease up the latency and go for some more speed. You have to remember you are getting to the "edge" of your boards limits now..and you will have to juggle latency at this level to make more speed. If you run into a "limit", examine your overall latency, and loosen it up before you try to push for more.

In this way you will find your NB's latency limit..and be able to dial in more FSB keeping your latency above this limit for stability.
