Noob-ish question, over volting

Thread Starter
well i have my athlon II pushed to 3.75 ghz and was looking for 4.0, the problem is i have already hit the 1.55V area where i was told not to go past in a past thread, now here's the thing, is it just temperature that prevents you from going higher if so i can go a lot further because as of now i am idling at 0C from sucking in outside air.

so my question is: can i go higher on the volts?
i mean in theory yes if you are 100% stable right now at 3.75 you should be able to
and what are you using to cool i have athlon II as well and i get 14C at idle

yea, that is what i figured, so how high can voltage actually go with out making the chip or my mobo explode?
I have heard that 1.5V to 1.55V is pushing the limits on athlon II's. I have an Athlon II X2 at 3.41Ghz at 1.43V. I wouldnt push your processor past 1.52V IMO in serious fear of damaging it.....also i just wanna say as a OCer....i am jealous of your -19C Vermont air in your PC

i know you can get more mileage out of the overclock if your cpu is colder ,so 4ghz at higher volts may be possible but do you have a spare cpu in case it dies?
1.6 may be enough for a quick 4ghz suicide run with your -35f tonight anyway.
fingers crossed

well i am on a tight budget and i have only one cpu so yea, no suicide runs for me unless i can get a hold of some older stuff for cheep
post #10 of 20
So what are suicide runs anyway? Pushing the volts and speed really high, even if it damages the CPU?

But no, I would not recommend going any higher... You're kind of pushing it a bit already.
