I was being realistic here. One step at a time...

Switching to SD would be cheaper. I can't see PSP2 games taking up more than 2GB of space, maybe 4GB with lots of audio and video. They could offer their games in an online marketplace for one price, and then just sell physical copies on MicroSD cards for the online price + $5.

They would probably have to have some kind of verification though in order to actually play the game, otherwise the PSP will fall victim to the same level of piracy as the DS, where all you need to do is stick the roms on an SD card and use a simple adapter to connect it to the DS.

Another potential use for the 3G would be for authorization. If you have all of your games linked to an account then the PSP could ping the server for an authorization key, which would then be stored in some protected area of the device. Without the key the game won't start. This would also serve to combat used game sales, unless Sony provides a method to "unlink" your device.

As long as they don't roll dice for their "random" numbers like with the PS3 it should be pretty secure.

PSP2 is still going to be a failure like the PSP. Sony is likely going to price this at $400. The games on phones are cheaper and more convenient to play on the go. Gaming for long hours on a PSP was uncomfortable.

Also, going 4G would be incredibly stupid. 4G covers what? 10-20% of the US? Its not going to catch up to 3G coverage for another 4-5 years probably, so why use it?

I'd rather have a product that will download at 6 Mbps anywhere in the country than a product that will download at 11 Mbps in just a handful of cities.
Verizon is planning on covering half of their 3G coverage with 4G LTE by the end of 2012. Depending on when this comes out it could be about a year away.

I dont think the PSP was a failure at all. Sales wise it didn't do fantastically because of piracy but other than that: it was a great success among developers in terms of quality games.
