Ideas/Opinions of 2 GTS 450 SLI + 8600GT Physx

I was just digging around a bunch of old hardware, and I found my old Asus 8600GT 512Mb. So, I thought to myself, "What happens if I stick this in my dual 450 rig?". However, that question was one that eluded my massively capable cranium, which is why I decided to consult (not ask, consult), the OCN community.

So, what are your ideas on the potential performance gains on a dual 450 SLI 1GB with a 8600 GT for physx? How about CUDA? Will I see any performance gains?

Take a look at this link to find out more:
http://www.slizone.com/object/sli_cuda_learn.html

My impressively superpowerful mega cranium could not make heads or tails of that document... too much chem going on in my head....

there was a bench scale using mafia II to highlight the benefits of using a lower end card for physx and in some cases,it actually decreased frame rate, though i assume quality went up so its possibly a worthy trade off considering you must be getting reasonable fps using sli 460s?

The faster cards (2x GTS450), would have to wait for the 8600GT to finish processing all the Physx first which would result in frame drop (as seen in that bench that MightMission mentioned).

Ok thanks guys. I guess I'll just keep the 2 450's. I should seriously upgrade to a pair of 470's but my wallet says otherwise. However, the 450's in SLI do come very close to a 470, so I guess I can live with that. As long as my games stay around 60fps @ 1920x1200 with possibly max settings, I'm cool... Obviously this doesn't take into account the games that require massive system specs, but still...
