Cant believe how little power i use

Thread Starter
Well for some reason I am shocked.

Running my sig rig at full load i cant pull more than 461w out of the wall. From what i under stand, my psu is only around 80% efficient, so 80% of 461w is 368.8w. Does that mean i could run my system off a good 400w psu? sounds crazy to me.

Im running:
920 @ 4.0 1.25v
evga x58
GTX 580
6GB OCZ 1600mhz
1 SSD, 1TB WD black hard drive and a 250gb WD hard drive
Dvd burner
Wireless card
water cooling, rad, pump, ress....
6 120mm fans and 1 160mm fan
All on a 700W OCZ psu

you sure you hit full load ?
its very hard to get there, max cpu, max mem, max graphics and all
you should run like Linx + memtest + furmark at the same time to get there maybe

also how you know its 80% at 460W load.. it varies on all different loads.

running it on a very good 400W isnt going to do it i think, a 550W of good quality would do but you be running near max load of the psu, i wouldnt like that.

You need like Furmark and Intel Burn Test on High or Very High. 3dmark11 isn't really going to draw all that much out of your system.

The Kill-a-Watt meter can apparently read as much as 15% low on some PSUs with APFC.

Don't diss the Phaedrus greke. Active PFC confuses basic watt meters, they're just not designed to cope with it like more expensive units are. Assuming it's reading a conservative 10% low, then the OP is still only pulling 500w from the wall, or 400w inside the machine at 80% efficiency.
I'd still go for a 550w for safety. Running a PSU at over 90% for long periods isn't good for them. I prefer to stick with 80% of capacity at max load, just for extended life-span of the PSU.

Memtest is a bootable disk, not a windows application. Or is there a program for it now that I'm not aware of?
