i7 875K Noctua NH-D14 - Page 2

Simple it says 2600K in your main gaming rig, I haven't looked at the other ones .

Hm haven't tried other fans, but I think the stock ones should be just fine. My temps with HT off seem ok, but with HT on the temps just go wild, more than 10C up than with HT off. Maybe it's normal temp increase?

And maybe I should not be worried, but 83 degrees aftre 30 mins of Prime still seem kinda too much.

Don't lap your cooler unless you want to forfeit your 6 year warranty with Noctua.

I would double and triple check your mounting. Also keep in mind that if you have high ambient temps your CPU will naturally follow suit since it's using your rooms ambient air to cool itself.

For instance my i7-950 idles @ 27.5c avg and 66c load avg based on a room ambient of 18c all at 4ghz.

If my room were 25c ambient then my temps would reflect that. So if you have recently started pumping your heat up your temps will suffer.

I also see that you have a HAF 932 as I do. May I suggest taking the stock CoolerMaster 140mm out of the exhaust position and trying to find a way to add it to your 5.25" bays as I did? I found that temps dropped 3c because of a tad more airflow from the outside of the case.

I ended up swapping my DVD drive to the lowest possible slot to add the 140mm fan to the bay and threw a 2 dollar extension on the end of the fan.

EDIT: Just saw that you're at 4.2. But I don't think your temps should be that high with HT. As I ran P95 for 3 hours and temps never went above 66c on the hottest core.

Get a pair of nice fans, should help a bit with temps. a 10C increase with HT on is normal. 83 on P95 is fine, as long as you're not running it at 83C 24/7 it won't damage your CPU.

Lap your CPU! It will surprise you how low your temps will be. If you're too scared to lap your CPU, (trying to prod you to do it) you can always just reseat the cooler.

I wouldn't go that far, at least not for now, until I try all other options.

Yeah I mean I personally only have one 5.25" drive so I was able to place the drive in the bottommost slot above the 3.5" drive slot and added the fan sitting directly on top of the DVD drive and it sits so tight that the frame rails left grooves in the fan frame, which is perfect cause you know it won't vibrate and that it won't fall over.

If you have another 5.25" you might be able to rig something up to add a nice 120mm in there, I used the 140mm cause it was free. Lol. Otherwise I'd add a nice Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F in there, or an E if its too loud.
