I do want my pc to be faster. But it's not all about speed. Building computers is my hobby, my passion. It's a blast and it feels great to use a high performance machine that I built myself.

the thign with computers is theres always something better on the horizon, so you may as well bite the bullet at some point. i mean, with the clocks of sandy bridge and ivy bridge, my computer will start to age and lose out due to the amount of cores and the speed in ivy bridge. but there is always something better.

My opinion is to do the opposite of this, grab yourself a nice zippy 2500k now if you're just going to be writing papers and gaming, and wait for the new big toys if you plan on the heavy stuff and vm's =)

College is expensive homeboy... I know. I'm going full time. Try to evaluate your priorities witha non-biased opinion. If you think it's within your budget, hey! Go for it! If not, just wait and see. Nothing will go out of style that you'll wind up regretting. Tons of grea advice here on where to go and wha. You might want to get.

Since I'm going to a state school and qualify for state money, my dad said he'd pay for almost everything. I won't need too much money and I'll have plenty left over

Just pull the trigger and jump head in. No point in buying something then wanting something else. You won't appreciate it as much! Sandy bridge is a safe bet really.

Yeah I plan to. I'm just deciding on a motherboard. I don't know to go for the p8p67 deluxe, pro, evo or a gigabyte.
