2000, I bought a IBM pc for $1200. 2005 I bought a dell for $1000. 2010, march, I built this rig, $1300. Five years between rigs buying/building top end gear. And yes, mainly to be able to play the newest games.

I built my rig just to play Crysis... and I'm not even close to good performance in it. I have improved my multiplayer skills drastically though. Gettin' plenty of hacker accusations and bein' the best player in servers full of noobs.

But I know that I'm nothing unless I play in cups / tourneys. Problem is that Crysis Wars is dead. ANYWAY

$2000 is overkill. $1000 will get you there with parts from your old PC (monitor, keyboard, hard drive, mouse) , and you can then just upgrade as you save, which is how I'm doin' it.

Sure, gaming is a big part of the after product, but the knowledge and enjoyment you get out of building, and general usage, is what matters.

I've probably spent £3,000 or so on this PC, and I don't feel like I've wasted a penny.
Well said sir!

That's about what I've spent on my PC + all peripherals.

Basically what Waffle said. I don't just build my PC to game on - I spend money on it knowing that it will increase the amount of enjoyment (and productivity ) I get out of it.

In total, I think I've spent about £600 on my sig rig, including all peripherals. Not as many as some, but I'm 15 and get £20 a month.

And the reason I spend money on it is, like Smokin' said, because it's my hobby and passion.

considering you spend 800-1200 USD on worthwhile parts that rig should last you several years if you don't need everything MAX MAXED. I'm talking 16x 32x AA/AF EXTREME textures what have you for negligible video/graphical difference if you tweak it right.

I got my bottom sig rig in December 2007. Still going strong. I've since only changed the GPU this last summer in 2010.

I'm not a console gamer and most console gamers have multiple consoles which in total = about a P.C. or more in cost. When the P.C. can do SOOOOO much more beyond gaming.

My sig rig cost me $1100.00 minus the CPU, Graphics Card, and Heatsink. That was back in 2007. Since the year 2010, that is when I baught new hardware. Now of which totals out to around $1550.00. Although my gaming habbits have cut down dramaticlly over the years. I think i'm starting to grow out of it. With that being said, I will keep this as a hobby and never intend to do computers as a job (unless of course I can't continue doing construction).
