GTX 460 Made No Improvement - Page 3

I would return it and use the 9600 GT until you can do a full overhaul. Its not worth the upgrade if the upgrade dosent help anything.
Definitely keep the card and get a new CPU as soon as possible. Do you have a microcenter anywhere near you? Your best bet would be to go there and grab a Phenom II or Athlon II X3 or better. Whatever money permits. But they go for cheap there.

3 cores is just what u need
get a athlon II X3 or a phenom II X3 or even a phII X2 and unlock it (like i did)
haha well only AMD makes CPU with odd number of core so i said quad-core to be fair
anyway just get a newer dual core 3+ GHz or a quad/tri core at 2.4+ GHz and you should be fine.

It so happens that you've tested some games that are relatively CPU dependent and not very graphically challenging. If you tried something like Crysis on Very High, the 460 would utterly destroy the 9600GT. Bottlenecking is very much situational, depends on the test (i.e. what game/bench you're running) and the settings you run that test at.

Worst case scenario w/cpu-bottlenecking when you upgrade a gfx card is that your FPS sometimes remains the same ... but you can still get the same FPS w/the faster card even after bumping the IQ settings much higher. IOW the faster card has ability run much higher settings even if the FPS stays cpu-bottlenecked in certain scenarios.

Thread Starter
I actually got this new card at a microcenter nearby. What I think I might do is try to sell the 9600GT, upgrade the CPU, and then sell the old one. Do you think people are in the market to buy either of these items?

Sorry if this thread has turned into an advice-fest. I just need some help. I'm not a newb, but I'm still learning.

The 5200+ processors are crappy overclockers IMHO. I could not get my friends up more than about 300 mhz which is not gonna make a huge improvement. Might wanna check on used phenom x3's or x4's for that board. One could be had for about 30 bux and it would absolutely shred your current CPU

before you go for another cpu, check what youre mobo's bios supports, then got for much as you can afford at the time, keep the card because once you upgraded your cpu you will reap the benfits.
until such time try oc'ing your nb for some tangible rewards

EDIT
http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-ECS/A790GXM-A(V1.0).html
your pretty much clear even for 125w cpu's so you could save pennies by buying a second hand processor via ebay or going to the for sale section here and see what tickles your fancy, then maybe jog on your old gpu in the same for sale section/ebay to further finance your cpu upgrade
