Necessary to let SSD idle?

Thread Starter
Should I let my C300 128GB idle an hour or two every week for garbage collection purposes or does it automatically do this on its own? If so, what's the best way to do this? Restart and sit at the logon screen?

Whenever I have my PC up, I'm always listening to music or doing something that is not idling.

TRIM will do its job automatically whenever you make new write cycles.

So you don't need to worry about it, just use your PC as normal and your SSD will take care of it on its own.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

Only if you force TRIM otherwise no need.

TRIM only works on the deletion of files. Updates of files can still generate dirty blocks.

Idle garbage collection will probably work better if the system is on when you aren't actively using the drive.
