E8400 Overclocking - Page 2

After you overclock your CPU and it fails a 24 hour or 12 hour prime 95 test. Run a Memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
Make sure it passes at least 8-10 passes

i've seen a few get to 4.0 with that chip on water but they cant do 24hr prime\\

id say the best stable for that chip would be 3.8

I think I can manage 4 GHz if I downclock my RAM. Not sure how I got this RAM stable at 1066MHz. I'll dowclock it and run at a higher FSB with higher VCore. Does North Bridge Voltage do anything for overclocking? What setting is normal for it?

You could just set it to auto. Thats what mine is, I think 1.2v is normal.

My computer won't boot up if I put the RAM on auto settings. Which is 850MHz but will boot up at 1066 MHz. The ****?

I have an e8400 and you should get 3.6ghz pretty easy. I didn't even need to up the voltage for the cpu at that speed. Also, try upping the voltage on the northbridge to 1.3 - 1.4 volts and see what you get. I had to do this to get to 3.8ghz.
Hope this helps

Don't use auto, set it 1:1 manually. You'll still be out of spec and 850 is where alot of plain PC6400 craps out, maybe not obviously but in random instabilities. You can try tweaking it but RAM tweaking takes alot of time.

Can your board run the RAM unlinked? You can try unlinked at 800 if so. If not I'd still consider getting 1066, may as well be 2x2GB.

Can your motherboard unlink the memory speeds so that they are unaffected by the fsb changes? If so, try it and see what you can get.

I did set it at 1:1 later on and it my PC wouldn't boot up. Lmao, but yet it boots when my RAM is at 1066MHz? And trust me its stable here because I ran Memtest for a lot of passes to see if it was a while back. Unless it degraded.

Bumping since I'm finished with school for the semester, figured I'd go back and try and overclock again. Anyone with similar set up have any suggestions?
