I would get an X-Fi rather than Xonar, I read more problems with Xonar sound cards.

I had X-Fi XtremeGamer but it died on me so this Xonar DS I have now has better sound quality. Although that could be due to the Gamer dying but I like SQ on Xonar series more

I had a XtremeMusic before, RMAed it and got an XtremeGamer. Then RMAed it again because I abused it too much. Now, my newly RMAed XtremeGamer is coming tomorrow while my Xonar DX from NCIX is also coming tomorrow too. I was just curious if any could tell a difference between the two.

Honestly, I have an Xtremegamer. I got it a while back, and decided to upgrade to an Auzentech Forte. Turns out, it wasn't really an upgrade. I couldn't tell a difference in sound quality. It sounded "different," but not better. I decided to return the Forte which was a 130 dollar sound card, and simply keep my 40 dollar Xtremegamer.

That said, I do believe you'll notice a difference between the Xonar and the Xtremegamer. However, when it comes to soundcards in the range we're referring to, the actual difference in sound quality is negligible. If you like the way the Xtremegamer sounds, then keep it. If you like the way the Xonar sounds, keep that. They will have different sound signatures, as one is running off a Xonar sound processor and the other is running off the X-fi chip, but in my opinion, neither has "better" sound quality. Again, in the small range of soundcards, sound quality is really hindered to a certain level. Most of the time, better sound is achieved by using an amp, better headphones, or configuring the EQ to your liking.

Lol I agree. My X-Fi card is a PITA at times, however I strive for better sound quality despite troubles I might face.
