i7 2600k vs i5 2500k worth the $100?

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

Whats the major difference between the 2600k and the 2500k? Hyper Threading?? or the double threads? btw whats the threads doing?

It will be a gaming rig, and ive heard that there wont be any significant difference between 2600k and 2500k for gaming.

Shall i go for the 2500k and spent the extra 100$ for a GPU or shall i buy a 2600k and buy a gpu later?

srry for my bad english

How about you keep your i5-760 and buy a big GPU right now?

Sandy is a sidegrade if you're on a i7/i5. Buy a better GPU like Kand said.

X1950PRO is a bit old...

Upgrading CPU should be at the bottom or the list and graphics card should be #1 priority.....

To answer your question I say yes? HT is going to be more useful going forward as software becomes more multi threaded. For gaming however it'll make little difference currently

This, because by the time your i5 760 is "not enough" there will be far more powerful chips out than Sandy Bridge.

HYper threading and 2MB more L3 cache (i think).

I didn't think it was worth it. But different people have different requirements.

Sad.

For most the 2500k is more than enough.
Only people using them for benchmarks and encoding and whatnot would use all 8 cores.
