Best Water-cooling solution money can buy - Page 4

I pushed it to 1.6V (some instances up to 1.625V), and it was prime stable.

Okay, those are beyond suicide voltages.

I wouldn't go above 1.4v for 24/7 usage, especially if this is going to be a workstation.

As a fortune 500 software architect for nearly 10 years, I'll flat out tell you this doesn't make sense. 5-10% load on a single core but you're concerned with having the lowest core temp. possible? At 5-10% load, your processor would still be in power saving mode (if the cpu supports C1E/EIST etc.) unless explicitly disabled. Even an air cooler is going to keep your core temps at or under 40c. What good will lowering that temperature 5-10c do for you?

Edit: additionally, why would you care how fast your processor is, if you're only using 5-10% on a single core? This doesn't add up in the slightest.

All power saving disabled in bios, and hyper-threading disabled too.
At some point, the machine may well be used for another app that will not generate those 5-10% measly loads at the moment, hence am thinking about the future at the same time here.
I am not sure what is so funny about pushing the voltage to 1.625V. I know people who push it to 1.9V, but then you go into a whole new league of cooling, and I am not quite ready for that. I am looking to get it at stable at 1.575V to get around 5Ghz.

Thanks

1.575v IS TOO MUCH. this isnt and opinion its FACT. the world record didnt even use 1.9v and that was for almost 7ghz!

This thread is fail. You keep bragging you don't care about price, but you also say you want a chip with 12 threads that costs way too much, for an application that only uses 10% of one core?

You are wasting money, and the only reason you are here is to brag. You do not need watercooling, and if it's only using 10% of the chips power, you don't even need to OC.

Put a nice air cooler on there and quit wasting our time.

Have you even taken a look at the Intel spec sheet for the 1366 i7s? The maximum safe voltage is 1.4V, your processor isn't going to last a month at that voltage.

That is the guideline voltage. I have run it idle at the above voltages for well over a week, and its still fine. I mean, the whole point is to extract as much speed as possible out of the CPU for a given scenario. The processor will last well over that period (with ease). I was just trying to get advice on best available water cooling kit. If you don't push your voltages above the 'safe' limit, then you will not get anywhere with your overclocking.
