Vantage score drops with cpu overclock!!!???

Here's the situation. Got a new Mobo after frying my old, see sig rig, and I'm doing benchies and stuff with it. I'm just gonna lay out the numbers before I say anything else:

CPU at 3612mhz CPU-NB at 2580mhz; Vantage scores:

P12116

10862 graphics

18542 cpu
---------------------------
CPU at 3906mhz CPU-NB at 2790mhz; Vantage scores:

P11419

9983 graphics

20099 cpu
-----------------------------

Now the details. HD 4870 Radeon overclocked at 835 core 1140 memory for all test. All settings were default "balanced settings" nothing adjusted in CCC or MSI Afterburner except for the overclocks.

I uninstalled ATI 10.12, driver swept and reinstalled, same result. I uninstalled ATI 10.12, driver swept and installed ATI 10.4, same result.

I ran 3dmark 06 and compared scores from the past and they were 1000 points lower as well at same settings.

Then reloaded my 3612mhz cpu oc'ed and 2580mhz cpu-nb oc and ran vantage and scored P12066. 10791 graphics and 18701 cpu.

SO it has to be the OC?! But why?

Edit: Could it be the way the motherboard handles the overclock?

No, that is set at 2000mhz. That wouldnt slow it down would it? Ive always kept my HT speed around 2000mhz and OC's have worked fine.

Turns out you nailed it. My HT was at 267mhz not 2000mhz. I didn't even notice. Thanks a lot! Plus rep for you sir!!!

you are welcome, i notice speed decrease when ht is too low or too high..

for me 1.8-2.2 is sweetspot. 2000mhz probably best for me. so.., just thought of me getting lower gflops when my ht was increased.

Yeah, I had my setting saved in bios. I had the HT link saved as 200, thinking that was kinda like the base setting like 200FSB. Then saw in CPU Z it was not.
