Airflow In or Airflow Out?

Fellow Forum Members,
I have installed my XSPC dual 120" Fan unit inside my case. I have positioned the radiator at the bottom of the case which has plenty of vent holes. My question is regarding the fan airflow direction that are on top of the radiator. Is it better to have both fans draw air into the case through the vent holes and radiator or is it better to have both fans draw air out of the case through the radiator and out through the vent holes? What is better? Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on the case you have.. because everyone recommends that the RAD gets fresh air from the outside so temps will be lower but you will be blowing hot air into the case so to speak how's the internal airflow in it?

It is a trade off either way really.

Rad as intake - cooler air going into the rad, so lower water temperature, however warm air is exhausted into your case warming up other components.

Rad as exhaust - warmer air going into the rad, therefore slightly higher temp water, however the heat is taken out of the case allowing other components to run cooler.

If your case is well ventilated then it doesn't make a huge difference either way. Personally I go for rads as exhaust for two reasons; I like to take the heat out of the case, and because the two major heat producers (CPU and GPU) are loosing heat through the water my case temperature isn't much higher than ambient (usually ~2-3C for my case).

John is 100% spot on. When pulling air through the radiator from the outside of the case, it will lower your water temperatures. There have been many tests that show conclusive evidence that fans in a pull configuration lead to lower (albeit not much lower) temperatures. The problem you get here, though, is the warm air pulled through the radiator is going to be exhausted into your case.

I would agree with John here and go with a push configuration i.e. have the fans setup to blow through the radiator, pushing the air outside of the case. The temperature difference is minimal (0.5C at most) - the advantages of having the fans as an exhaust at the bottom of the case simply outweigh the disadvantages.
