RAID is for redundency and not for backups.
Redundency is the ability to continue working in case of failure.
Backup is the ability to retrieve data in case of failure.
First off, what RAID controller and SSDs are you using? You might be bottlenecked.
Second, what data is on the SSD? You might not be benefiting from RAID much.
You might be better off going with a smaller array and daily backup to a hard drive might suffice.
You do NOT want to go with onboard RAID5. The parity overhead will kill your SSD performance.
